%X The Maranhão Island is situate in the eastern region of the Intracratonic São Luís Basin, in the Maranhão State, Brazil, whose genesis dates Gondwana continent rifting process and the opening South Atlantic Ocean Equatorial, in the Upper Cretaceous, and its completely insulation, in the Quaternary. In this study were used from the OLI/Landsat-8 remotely sensed data, of the July, 20th 2015, scene 220/62 (DGI/INPE), and altimetric digital elevation model (DEM) and its local geomorphometric derivations concerning the 02S45 tile (TOPODATA), aiming at morphological compartmentation Maranhão Island relief, in the regional scale. The coast of mangroves and rias, and alluvial plains geomorphological units were individualized by analysis and interpretation of the image elements in the color composite 5(R), 6(G) e 4(B). The costal boards constitute the dominant unit and its differentiation in the central-north and central-south portions of the study area was captured by the geomorphometric variables altimetry, slope, vertical curvature and landforms. These changes in the modeling of the predominant unit may be related to the tectonic, eustatic and morphodynamic processes related to the genesis of the study area, similar to that observed in neighboring geotectonic units, such as in the Barreirinhas basins, on the east coast of Maranhão State, and of Cametá, in the Marajó Island, in the river-mouth Amazonas.
